1. Know Your Enemy - Understanding Bed Bugs

If you’re an avid traveler, you’re well aware of the wonders that await in far-off lands. However, what you don’t want to bring back home are uninvited guests – bed bugs! As leading experts in the field, All N-1 Pest Control Management brings you a comprehensive guide to avoiding bed bugs while traveling. This article will empower you with essential tips and tricks, helping you keep your journeys pest-free.

2. Inspect Your Accommodations

When checking into a hotel or other accommodation, don’t let your guard down. Thoroughly inspect the room for signs of bed bugs. Check around the bed, including the mattress, bed frame, and headboard. Look for small, dark spots (bed bug excrement), shed skins, or the bugs themselves. Use a flashlight if necessary – these pests are excellent at hiding.

3. Keep Your Luggage Off the Floor

Bed bugs are skilled hitchhikers. By keeping your luggage on luggage racks or in the bathtub (an unlikely place for bed bugs to be), you can reduce the chances of bringing these pests back home

4. Use Protective Luggage Covers

Consider using protective covers for your luggage, especially those designed to prevent bed bug infestations. These covers have a fine texture that bed bugs can’t penetrate.

5. Wash and Heat-dry Your Clothes

Upon returning home, wash and heat-dry your clothes, even those you didn’t wear. Bed bugs can’t survive high temperatures, so this can effectively kill any stowaways.

6. Check Your Belongings

Before unpacking, inspect your luggage and other belongings for any signs of bed bugs. If you spot any signs, contact a pest control service like All N-1 Pest Control Management immediately. We can help ensure that your home remains a bed bug-free zone.

While the thought of encountering bed bugs might seem daunting, being equipped with the right knowledge and techniques can help you avoid these pesky intruders. Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite: Everything You Need to Know About Bed Bugs

If you’re considering sleeping on an infested mattress, don’t! That’s one of the first pieces of advice from professionals to anyone dealing with bed bugs. These pests are nocturnal and feed on human blood, so they’re much more active and visible at night, which makes them harder to get rid of.

In the morning, when bed bugs are hiding in your mattress again, you won’t even notice their bites until it’s too late! Here’s everything you need to know about bed bugs—and how to keep them away from your home.

What are bed bugs? And What do bed bugs look like?

Bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that feed exclusively on blood. These wingless pests can hide in tiny spaces, but they usually nest near where people sleep. Bed bugs are most active at night, but during the day they usually hide in cracks and crevices in furniture, floors, bed frames and walls. A bed bug infestation is a major problem because it’s hard to eliminate an infestation once it has spread.

How do you get them?

Bed bugs are spread from person to person, or from their environment into yours. They’re typically found in places where people sleep or spend a lot of time, like apartments, hotels, and college dormitories. Some people may get bed bugs in their homes by bringing in used furniture that’s infected with them. And some people get bed bugs from public transit systems, such as buses and trains. The pests can also travel between floors in multi-unit buildings if there is an infestation present on one floor.

How do you get rid of bed bugs?

Bed bugs can be difficult to get rid of, especially when you’re not sure where they are hiding. The key is finding their hiding spots and getting rid of them before they get a chance to come back. For example, you may have bed bugs in your mattress or box spring.  around the house to kill any existing bed bugs that may have traveled from your bedroom into other parts of your home.

How do you prevent bed bugs?

There are a few ways you can prevent bed bugs from invading your home. First, seal cracks and crevices where bed bugs can hide. Next, discard clutter which could provide bed bugs with shelter. Finally, clean up after yourself and never bring used furniture into your home.

Bed bugs are oval shaped and a brownish color.  They live on the blood of animals or humans.  After feeding their bodies swell and are a reddish color.

What are the first signs of bed bugs?

The best way to look for physical signs of bed bugs. When cleaning, changing bedding, or staying away from home, look for:

  • Rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses caused by bed bugs being smushed
  • Dark spots (about this size of a dot) which are bed bug excrement and may bleed on the fabric like a marker would
  • Eggs and eggshells, which are tiny & pale-yellow skins that nymphs shed as they grow larger
  • Actual live bed bugs

How do I check for bed bugs?

When bed bugs aren’t feeding, they are at rest in the smallest of spaces.  Around the bed, they can be found near the piping, seams and tags of the mattress and box spring, and in cracks on the bed frame and headboard.

If the room is heavily infested, you may find bed bugs:

  • In the seams of chairs and couches, between cushions, in the folds of curtains.
  • In drawer joints.
  • In electrical receptacles and appliances.
  • Under loose wallpaper and wall hangings.
  • At the junction where the wall and the ceiling meet.
  • The head of a screw.

Since bed bugs are very small and can squeeze into small hiding spots,  if you can fit a credit card in the area a bed bug can squeeze in.

Can you see bed bugs with the naked eye?
